Founded in 2006 and a member of the United States Polo Association, Red Hills Polo Club is North Florida's premier place to learn and perfect the ancient art of polo. Polo is more than 2,000 years old. It was invented by the Persians as a means of training cavalry troops, and it proved so popular that it spread throughout Southwest Asia, China, and India. It was in India during the 18th and 19th centuries that British cavalry officers first became exposed to the game, and they quickly fell in love with it -- it is, after all, the highest, most exacting test of horsemanship. These officers brought the game to Britain, where it rapidly jumped to the Continent and to the Americas. Today, the leading polo players hail from Argentina, where the game is a national enthusiasm. But the game is international in scope and belongs to anyone with a mount and a mallet.
Those who love to ride are missing a special experience if they do not give the game a chance. There is nothing like the exhilaration of a hard gallop down an open field in a race for the ball alongside the pounding mounts of your teammates and competitors; of the quick turn as the play goes in an unanticipated direction; of a ball well-hit and a goal well-scored -- and above all, of a horse well-managed, for artful riding is the heart of polo.
And if riding and playing are not for you, come and watch in the shade of the giant, spreading oaks which adorn the playing field. You'll feel the excitement with the pounding of the hooves as the horses race by.
If you are an experienced player, come on in! We'll be glad to have you at our scrimmages and formal games. If you are new to polo, we will teach you polo riding, how to hit the ball, and the rules of the game. In no time, you'll find yourself in the thick of the excitement!
Our polo riders come in all levels of skill, from beginners to high-goal players, and we provide play to suit all levels. Many of our riders have been invited to play in professional tournaments around the state and the country.
Some think polo is only for rich people, but it isn't. Anyone can play. We have the horses, we have the field, and we have the equipment. All you have to do is come out and try it! We're sure you'll be as hooked as we are.
Life's too short to miss this chance! Come to Red Hills Polo Club now!
